WELCOME TO ENGLAND lyrics

i took a stab at transcribing the lyrics, if anyone hear something different, please post in the comments!

do a dance for me
baby it is laced ___ up on me
don’t want to go on
let the liquid take off what you won’t

you’ve been down before
boy and i like this
i’m in quicksand
i am sinking fast

perfect, heal it
’cause your other half has got himself
a devil’s excess

welcome to england, he said
welcome to my world

you better bring your own sun, sweet girl
you gotta bring your own sun
don’t you forget your…
bring your own sun
just enough for everyone

heels on, go on
bang a tango but do not get tangled
who can stay strong
when they only give us lies to lean on

when your heart explodes
is it deathly cold
you must let the colors violate the
blackness, the rest
a magic world in parallel
so leave your daily hell

welcome to england, he said
welcome to my world

it’s not a question, if i care
fight by your side
and we’ll stand
anything but
but i forgot
that you said, girl
if you come…

you better bring your own sun, sweet girl
you gotta bring your own sun
don’t you forget your…
bring your own sun
just enough for everyone

welcome to england
welcome to england

Where can I hear it?

Comment by Jolly:

Oh yes, please tell us where can we hear it … thank you !!!

Comment by Jessica:

I think that:
when your heart explodes
is it deathly cold

Is actually:
when your heart explodes
is it difficult

Comment by Jessica:

Also, I think
“the rest a magic world”

is actually
“there is a magic world”

makes more sense :)

Comment by Kansas:

i think it’s “a devil’s access” not excess.

Comment by Stinky:

You did a better job than I did. I heard “deathly cold” too. “Violate the blackness” was a good catch.

Comment by Seth:

perfect elect
your other half has the devil’s axis

(obviously about obama/mccain)

Comment by Lauren:

I thought it was “liquor” instead of “liquid” but now I can’t tell…

Comment by Liddy:

do a dance for me
baby it is late still you pour me
a tall one, go on
let the liquid take off what you’re on

you’ve been down before

perfect, heal it
’cuz your other half has got himself
a devil’s excess

I’m not sure if this is real, but here’s where I heard it. If this is the real thing, it is unbelievably bad. I was disappointed by the Beekeeper, but I bought the record. I don’t know if I will even buy this record. I listened to Strange Little Girls the other day and I can’t figure out where the woman who made that record is in this song. I wanted to love it, but if I heard it on the radio without knowing who was singing, I would laugh. The part where she sings “blackness, there is/a magic world parallel so leave your daily hell” is a bad parody of “just say yes, you little arsonist.” But those lyrics are great. What happened? More importantly, the piano is barely audible. Again. Her records have become so overproduced. It sounds glossy, tacky, and very of its time.

oops, changes:

you’ve been down before
but not like this
i’m in quicksand
i am sinking fast

you better bring your own sun, sweet girl
you gotta bring your own sun
don’t you forget you to…
bring your own sun

Comment by Coral:

Liddy, this lyric you figured out –

“do a dance for me
baby it is late still you pour me
a tall one, go on
let the liquid take off what you’re on”

That’s just genius…I would have never put that together.

And kudos also to the author of this site, pounding out most of the lyrics pretty solidly. Figuring out “you must let the colors violate the
blackness” is quite impressive, as someone already said.

Thanks to everyone for posting.

ACTUALLY. on thirtieth (or so) listen, I agree:

when your heart explodes
is it deathly cold
you must let the colors violate the
blackness, THERE IS
a magic world in parallel
so leave your daily hell

Comment by Liddy:

okay, I got another correction for myself:

it’s not a question, if i can
fight by your side
and withstand

and I agree.. everyone has done a great job deciphering these lyrics! She didn’t make it easy on us this time!! :)

Comment by dazdedpetal:

Great job guys!!

I think it’s “a magic world parallel,” rather than “in parallel.”

i agree that it might be “access,” or “axis,” rather than “excess.”

Comment by Stinky:

Everyone is kicking so much ass with this.

This may sound silly, but I think it’s “Let the liver take off”, because I think it’s about a husband’s drinking problem (although it might be “liquor” but I prefer “liver”). It would probably be “devil’s excess” then.

I think this sounds nothing like anything she’s done before, but I appreciate that she’s not trying to outdo herself and would rather just make music for people who really really really get her.

Comment by kath:

Couple things I listened differently:

do a dance for me
baby it is late still you PULL me

don’t you forget TO…
bring your own sun

I agree with “devil’s axis” and “there is a magic world…” :)

Comment by Mary Lou:

I have to admit it’s quite different, it is glossy, over produced, I would of did a better job on the guitar without sounding so distorted and fender bent. If this is one of the first of the tracks..hmmm. Her voice sounds weird, it sounds real strange. If yo notice though and want to really laugh, look at the similarities with the front cover, and Valley of the Dolls.

Comment by dazdedpetal:

I think it sounds great, and I really love this song. I think she really enjoys some of the manipulation you can do with your voice, and instruments on recordings. And, why not? It’s good to do different things. When she plays live, though, it’s all pure and beautiful.

Comment by weeping:

Love it. Can’t wait for the album.

Comment by Mr Bojangles:

Love WELCOME TO ENGLAND!
It’s a very beautiful song…hear her voice makes me fly…
love the guitars

Comment by daniel:

what I hear:

perfect, helix
’cause your other half has got himself
a devil’s axis

Comment by Elle:

Hot damn, daniel, I was all ready to break out my ‘perfect helix’ revelation and there you go stealing my thunder like a common thief.

And Stinky, I fear that although it may be kind of silly, you may be right about the liver. Ew. Shame.

You are all fabulous :)

Comment by dazdedpetal:

I agree with “perfect helix,” I wasn’t thinking she was saying “heal it.” I had thought at first she said “healin’,” but “helix” might be it.

Comment by Rebecca:

“let the liquid take off what YOU’RE on”

People miss that all the time, and I just don’t get why…say YOU ARE, and if that is grammatically correct, use YOU’RE. YOUR is the possessive. “YOUR bad grammar drives me crazy,” for instance.

“liver” sounds good, too. Dang, you’d think after listening to her sing for over 16 years now, we’d all be better at this, eh?

Comment by Elle:

Your really would. I’m so ashamed.

Comment by Louise:

I think this part is..

“your other half has the devil’s axis”

your other half has the devil’s accent…he talks like a brit. Welcome to England after all.

This song is so awesome! It’s gonna be a long month waiting for the cd release :(

Comment by RIkki:

perfect, heal it
’cause your other half has got himself
a devil’s excess

I think excess.. is actually ACCENT

could be wrong

:)

Comment by jorge:

how about let the liquid take off what you wont? i think its pretty damn cool shes still tryin new stuff on her tenth album, anyone elso noticed how little she’s layering background vocals one over the other? there’s like none on this song which is totally uncharacteristic of her recorded stuff. maybe shes delegating some of these harmonies to other instruments like the guitar. I dont know i think its pretty damn cool the whole thing. psyched for the record.

a devils access?
