A few years before her rebirth as an arty alt-rock demigoddess in 1992, Tori Amos had moved to Los Angeles and recorded an album in 1988 called Y Kan't Tori Read. Y Kan't Tori Read was a critical and commercial failure, and sold only 7.000 copies. The Big Picture was released as a single in June 1988 and a promotional video was directed Marty Callner.
