Operation Peter Pan

hola, rojo, ‘morning to you
you always helped me chase demons away
don’t know what i’ll do without you
so Pan is the name of the plane

second to the right
straight on ’til morning
that’s where i’ll be waiting
second to the right
straight on ’til morning

hola, tick-tock
my time is up
Pedro says
i will forget him in days
in my new life, no room for a lost boy
boys can be so dumb sometimes

second to the right
straight on ’til morning
that’s where i’ll be waiting
second to the right
straight on ’til morning
straight on ’til morning

kiss Pedro for me

Quotes

“Operation Peter Pan spanned from 1960-62 whereby over 14,000 children were sent away from their families in Cuba, some never to reunite again. Pan Am flights took the children to Miami, Fl, Never-Never Land, and the children became known as the “Peter Pans.” I wrote this song for my daughter, and it is sung for all the daughters and mothers, fathers and brothers who felt this pain of separation all because of governments and their politics.”
– Tori; UK A Sorta Fairytale Single

The lyrics “second star to the right, straight on til morning” combined with the song title Operation Peter Pan is an obvious reference to the children’s fairy tale Peter Pan. Peter’s land where no child ever grows up is named, Neverland, and the lyrics refer to how to fly there.

I: Is there a pair now that stands out to you? T: Sure. I’ve been playing a lot in these gold Gucci sandals I bought a couple of years ago. They’re very high and they have gold see-through heels that look like a New Mexico sunset. They seem both old and futuristic, like ancient Egyptian meets alien from Andromeda. I had some Manolo’s with that see-through iridescence. I love the idea of prisms in shoes, where light reflects. I don’t have wild fluorescents – that’s not my scene at all. I’m not just a classic kind of gal, I like to think that’s an element. But classic, and turn left. Second to the right, straight on till morning. [sings] ‘Second to the right, straight on ’til morning….’ I was going to write that song once I knew that was Peter Pan’s address.
– Tori; Shuz magazine, Spring 2000

Tori performed this song live (solo), in-concert for the first time during the On Scarlet’s Walk Tour in Melbourne, FL on November 9, 2002. Scarlet’s Walk Tour in Melbourne, FL on November 9, 2002.
