TOM JONES

BIO >>
Tom Jones' unique weighty voice is a baritone to tenor range. He is a vocal powerhouse with the ability to give his audience every ounce of his energy, enthusiasm and concentration. If his delivery is vigorous, he invites his audience in with the vulnerability of his emotional conviction. He is a natural, a Welshman, a worker, an artist. Tom has a fundamental interest in a wide range of musical expression. He is first and foremost a rocker with a true rhythm and blues soul. In his youth, he was a "Teddy-Boy", a rebel, with not much on his mind but music and sex. His young style and attitude was dominated by the birth of rock 'n' roll. But he had ears and a natural ability that could appreciate and understand the quickly burgeoning styles of popular music. As much time as he spent listening to American and British radio he would spend in the pubs, drinking and singing. He learned he could sing anything, and he learned he could entertain. Tom has sustained his popularity for more than three decades. His recordings have spanned the spectrum from pop and rock to standards, rhythm and blues to rockabilly, country to dance and contemporary urban sounds. Official Website: tomjones.com

QUOTES >>

"The following single to If I Only Knew was I Wanna Get Back With You, a ballad which featured Tori Amos's vocals on the chorus, although it was generally described as a 'duet'. In the same month that The Lead And How To Swing It was released, Tori's current album Under The Pink was certified platinum, and a joint appearance of Tori and Tom could only have benefited him. However the pair were never seen together, either in Tom's promotional video for the duet, or performing live on stage. Without a visual union of this strength, the single completely failed to chart. Although Tom missed out on capitalising on Tori's success and standing he now became quite vocal about another female pop star with whom he would have liked to share a microphone. Apparently his admiration for Madonna was reciprocated."

"It was called I Wanna Get Back With You. It wasn't the duets album though. It was an album in 1995 (The Lead And How To Swing It) I didn't meet him because I was on the road, so I did it in a studio in Oregon and he wasn't there. It was a wild session, it all got very out of hand because Diane Warren had written this song with this background part they wanted me to do but it was something that I just couldn't say. But I really wanted to be a part of Tom's project so I changed the words and it worked much better. He's really been a musical force, whatever you think of him. Especially with all those Christian women and those leather pants, I mean you just have to give ode to Tom. After I recorded it Tom's people asked if I changed it. And I said 'Yes, and I'm not charging the royalties. And it works!' They were nervous because Diane had written it. I never met Tom but he did send me a nice Cartier clock."

"When I first heard about this man I was a little girl and the women in church said he was the devil, or he had the devil in his trousers. Then when I was older I was able to sing with his voice, but I've never been able to shake his hand. Lets see him in action. [clips of Tom Jones] The award goes to Tom Jones."

"Tom and I were both due to be working on a track together, but due to schedules we couldn't be in the same place at the same time. We ended up recording our parts separately, but I haven't seen Tom since I laid down those vocals. I'm going to try and hunt him down later."
