Tori Amos has been playing the piano since she was 2 years
old. she was accepted into the Peabody Conservatory at the
age of 5. She was kicked out for irreconcilable differences at
the age of 11.
At 13 she was playing bars in Georgetown, Washington D.C.
chaperoned by her father, a Methodist Minister. She continued
playing in bars 5-6 nights a week for 11 years, until the release
of "Y Kant Tori Read," recorded on Atlantic Records.
Back playing bars after "Y Kant Tori Read" met a quick death.
Realizing the piano was "her thing," Tori started writing again
at the piano. the songs written during this period became the
basis for "Little Earthquakes."
Tori moved to London, playing clubs alone at her piano. "Me
and a Gun," an EP containing "Me and a Gun" and "Silent All
these Years" was released in October, 1991 in the UK and
caused quite a stir.
"Little Earthquakes" was initially released in the UK in
January, 1992 and worldwide release followed. A 1992 world
tour gave Tori a chance to eat lots of good food! She played
over 200 cities worldwide alone at her piano.
Currently, she is happy that recording is almost finished with
her new project. the album is due for release in early 1994
and will be supported by a world tour of her and her piano.
